Positive psychology becomes more popular towards the end of the 20th century. Martin Seligman ( born 1942 ) brought up to the mass and become the driving force for the positive approach to psychology. He believed that instead of repairing damage, people should be more concerned with building strength. But the first idea of positive psychology was used by Aristotle used in the term Eudaimonia which he described as the highest human good when a person lives a good life by focusing on life's pleasures, philosophy.( Ralls, E., & Collins, T. 2022).
Studies show that psychologists should pay attention to positive psychology and strength that can change the quality of life as much as they work on negative mental issues. Negative bias is limiting personal growth and life satisfaction. Positive psychology can reduce a level of anxiety, alcohol/drug usage and many other mental issues based on negative thoughts and stress. For example, we start celebrating some of our small achievements that will trigger our dopamine which will lead us to bigger achievements. Reaching out goals our goals with time cant make us forever happy but it will teach us to enjoy the process which will lead us to life satisfaction.( Loretta Graziano Breuning. 2016).
It is important today to use positive psychology, especially after the Pandemic ( COVID - 19 ) that affected everyone back in 2020. According to The Daily: " Life satisfaction was sharply lower in June 2020 compared with 2018." After restrictions on social interaction and shutting down businesses or making changes at the workplace mental health and life satisfaction dramatically dropped. The majority of the population lost their sense of meaning and purpose in the future, and getting back to normal requires some personal growth.
Larger potential stress levels are typically correlated with decreased positive thinking. People may be more likely to grow through fulfilling hobbies and relationships when they feel less overwhelmed by stress and its negative effects. ( McEwan, 2008). The positive psychology of the "Pleasant life" requires a search for enjoyment and the power to improve them. This includes engaging in daily activities that bring us happiness. The mindful commitment may be beneficial in many worthwhile activities related to health, like loving relationships, community work, and recreation activities. (Ralls, E., & Collins, T. 2022). Since that social connections are associated with physical health, the relationship between social connections and well-being is especially essential.( Diener, & Gonzalez, 2013)
Higher Positive thinking is also associated with fewer anxiety and depressive symptoms, like stress, worrying and feeling negative. (Schotanus-Dijkstra et al., 2016). Studies projected that resilience and mindfulness would be positively linked with functional flourishing, while stress and the intensity of anxiety/depression symptoms would be negatively associated. In addition to minimizing obstacles to personal development, mindfulness also strengthened one of the qualities that promote it: perseverance. (over-engagement; Feldman et al., 2007). Some people may become "stuck" on ideas or trying to figure out a problem. Perseverance is the attitude in the issue. Individuals don't purposefully act in a rebellious or stubborn manner.
It is interesting and unclear why people feel grateful after particular bad things happen. Why do they still think positively? For example, a study that indicated trait gratitude grew among the general public after the 9/11 terrorist attacks is one of the few exceptions to the rule of only looking at negative events.( Peterson & Seligman, 2003) Negative interpersonal experiences could offer a chance to practise appreciation, while unpleasant non-personal experiences might prevent gratitude from developingor possibly both. It could be simpler to see an indirect benefit of an incident when other people are engaged, while it might be more challenging to think creatively about potential good outcomes if a negative event happened alone. It would be helpful to know why this situational aspect promotes or inhibits negative event-anchored state thankfulness in order to better understand how to successfully build gratitude for negative experiences in daily life. Research on posttraumatic growth (PTG) shows that individuals occasionally report greater appreciation of life after a traumatic incident, but few studies have examined state-level experiences of gratitude in response to negative events in daily life, rather than large traumatic stressors.(Tedeschi, Park, & Calhoun, 1998)
Some believe positive psychology may be directly traced to a fake-it-'til-you-make-it kind of rebranding. "Struggles are now seen as "opportunity," according to (Goodman,1976) who claims that we have a positive outlook on everything. They are "teachers," triggers. Sadness has developed into "love without a place to go." Actual "developing strengths" are weaknesses." So smile more, speak and act more joyfully than you do if you want to feel happier than you do right now.(Strack, F.,Martin,L.L.,&Stepper, S. 1988).
In conclusion, One way for supporting happy experiences in the middle of conflict may be mindfulness. We can embrace life when we can let go of the struggle. something Positivemight come next. (Eklund et al., 2010) People tend to be happy on an all-around consistent basis. They discovered that having goals is essential to happiness and that our cultural values affect how we view situations and how they affect our happiness. Only when they prevent us from achieving our objectives can other things, such as finances, become problematic. Positive Psychology is necessary to practice daily to improve our mental health and personal growth. This approach helps to focus on our best qualities, our purpose in the future and our well-being. The best distraction from negative thoughts and stress that can lead us to mental illness is praising our achievements and enjoying what we have.
