The focus of this assignment is on the financial statements as a whole and the concepts related to the topics covered in this course. You will conduct internet based research to select a public company of your choice from the list of companies included in the Fortune 100 companies, and locate its most recent SEC 10-K report for your project. As part of this project, you will participate each week in the discussions specifically designed to guide you through this project. You will share your experience with your fellow students to learn from each other through discussion postings. There are two deliverables: (1) SEC 10-K Paper, and (2) SEC 10-K Power Point presentation based on your paper. Additional information will be provided by your professor. What it means for our section - be sure that you follow these instructions as this is the rubric I will be grading from. Think of this project as a report you will present orally with a PPT slideshow. Keep the words on your slide to an absolute minimum - if you need a target ... no more than 5 words on a slide. The paper/report (your words) should be in the notes area ... for your audience to read (if it were a live presentation they would be listening to you). (All the details go into the notes area for each slide. Feel free to use graphs, photos etc on the slide itself with the all the details ... commentary and computations in the notes area. There is a good reason why I require very few words on the slides ... when presenting most people use PPT as a crutch. Often reading straight from the slide. Rather each slide should be prepared in such a way that your audience must listen to you in order to understand or "make sense" of the slide, as opposed to reading the slide and not listening to the speaker.) 1. There is a combined deliverable. There is the PPT and the 10-K paper which is to be embeded in the notes area of your PPT. 2. Your PPT slides should not be wordy...rather use graphics to illustrate your point and put your words in the notes area. 3. Your references should be included at the bottom of the notes area for your last slide. 4. Because this is a combined deliverable, there should be no more than 8 slides, including the cover slide o Cover slide - Include the name of the company and its ticker symbol, your name and the course (ACCT 220 7987) and the term (Fall 2015) o Slide 2 historical background of the company, it's position on the Fortune 500 list where the company is incorporated and headquartered and why you were interested in this particular company. o Slide 3 - Company size, in terms of Revenues ($) Net Income ($) Total Assets ($) o Slide 4 - Profitability - compare most recent year to prior year and discuss trend - show your computations in the notes area. Gross Profit and GP% Net Income % (Net Income / Net Sales) o o o o o o Slide 5 - Auditor and opinion. Who are the auditors? In your own words - what does the auditors' opinion tell you about the financial statements? How does the auditor's opinion increase or decrease how much you can rely on the financial sttatements in making decisions about the company? Slide 6 - Inventory and Receivables compute the turnover ratios and the days' sales in inventory and average collection period for receivables - show your computations. compare to the prior year. How are these ratios changing from year to year. Slide 7 - Property, Plant and Equipment Comment on the changes in PP&E and accumulated depreciation from the prior year to the most recent year. Slide 8 - Conclusion Summarize in 1 to 2 paragraphs (in notes area) what you have learned about your company. Based on what you have learned would you be interested in investing in the stock of your company? Why or why not? Once more let me emphasize...minimum words on the slides...use pictures, graphics, illustrations etc ... make the slide interesting with clean formatting and put your report in the notes area. The notes area of each slide may have up to 2 sections. The first section is your written report relating to the slide. The second section contains all your computations - this is to be BELOW the written report content
