There are two tasks and need to be completed and submitted separately. Task One (15% of total assessment) Students are required to select one company from the top 50 listed companies included in the latest S&P/ASX All Australian 50 Index (http://www.asx.com.au) and complete a report around 800 words according to the following requirements: 1. Download a copy of the 2016 annual report of your selected company (you can obtain a company's annual report by direct access to the company's website or from Australia Stock Exchange website (http://www.asx.com.au). 2. Discuss the main structure of annual report and provide a summary of key activities of the selected company. 3. What are the key numbers in the financial statements (for example: sales, cost of goods sold, current assets, total assets, cash flow from operating activities. etc.). Comment on the company's performance (use economic entity or consolidated figures) over the year. Discuss whether company has disclosed information about its environmental and social performance. 4. Evaluate the usefulness of annual reports to different stakeholders of the company. What is the stock market reaction on the day when annual reports are released? Use Google Search (or other search engines) to investigate whether there are any media reports or comments around the release of annual reports. Evaluate whether annual reports have a positiveegative impact on the society. Due Date: Sunday 06 August: electronically via blackboard. Task Two (15% of total assessment) Using the annual report for the selected company, you are required to complete following requirements and write a report around 800 words. 1. Select two of accounting items in the annual report, such as account receivables, inventory, property, plant and equipment, intangible assets, account payable, long-term loans, etc. Find the note that discusses significant accounting polices about these accounting items. 2. Discuss the importance of these accounting items in annual reports and their impacts on company's financial position and financial performance. 3. Evaluate any social impacts of these disclosed accounting items. 4. Assume you are the one of the stakeholders in the selected company, such as shareholders, potential investors, creditors, consumers, suppliers or regulators; write your reflections on the annual report of selected company. Due Date: Sunday 17 September: electronically via blackboard. The Individual assessment must be in a report format, i.e., the content is split into several logical sections and sub-sections. These sections should include: introduction, main section of the report, conclusion and reference list. All sources of information used in the report must be acknowledged using the RMIT Business version of the Harvard (author-date) referencing system in written assessments. A reference list must also be included in your Report.
