E-learn Friction Lab Go to https://ophvsics.com/f2.html Hover over Dynamics and choose the Friction Sim using static and kinetic friction on an inclined plane. All the pre-sets are okay as they are. Static Friction Lab Record the coefcient of static friction from the Sim. You can change it at this time. Using an initial velocity of zero and the mass of 3 kg {You can change that too if you like} - calculate from theory what angle of inclination will provide no net force. Use the Sim now and set the angle to the answer you got in Step 2. Press Start. Does the mass move? {It shouldn't. If it does go back and check your calculations!) Change the angle of inclination to 0.1 degrees higher than the answer from Sep 2 and press Start. (The Sim should reset but you can click Reset button}. The object should just start to move, verifying your work. Draw a free body diagram for this part of the lab. Kinetic Friction Lab Set the coefcient of kinetic friction to some value of your choice (or leave it as it is}. Set the initial velocity to 0.1 m/s. Use the angle slider and adjust it so that the acceleration indicated by the Sim is as close to zero as you can get {negative value is okay}. When Start is clicked, the object will slide in near UM. Verify by calculations that the angle you determined was correct. Draw a free body diagram for this part of the lab. ue stion 5 Why is the angle different in the kinetic versus static friction labs? What sort of real-life applications might this study of friction be used for? Did the mass have any effect on your lab? Why or why not? Friction is very often thought of as a disadvantage because it "resists\" motion. However, it has its advantages. Explain one advantage and one disadvantage for each of static and kinetic friction. Aim to give unique and interesting examples
