How might a measurement be taken in different ways? What effect can this have on the community?

Measurements can be taken in different ways depending on the person. Some might like measuring one way while another, another way. There are those who estimate as well instead of giving the exact measurement. This would absolutely affect the community if someone were to build a house. i would want those measurements to be spot on. Not estimates.
