This example is about an admission office job for a renowned university of the region. Since this is admission time, the prospective customers are coming in huge numbers. Since most of the prospective parents (of the children seeking admission) visit on weekends, the facility needs to open on weekends. The change is to keep it from five days a week at alls even days a week. The effects. (i) The change is to make a five-day operation to seven-day operation. (ii) The admission manager, counsellors, salespeople and accountant will be needed on all days. They are the ones who will make it happen by rescheduling the work among themselves. The change will be affected by changing week offs from Sundays and Saturdays to different weekdays, so that there is least overtime. The issue will be with manager and accountant positions which have only one resource. The head counsellor will take responsibilities of manager on weekends, while the accountant will be available for three hours overtime on each weekend day. (iii) The resistance will be from family men whose weekends will probably be working, disturbing their schedule. The other resistance will be from the accountant who will have to work every day, and therefore cannot go outstation during entire admission period. (iv) The resistance can be overcome by making sure that a person's week off does not fall on weekdays for more than twice a month. This can be done by preparing the schedule accordingly. In this way, it will not affect them much. As regards accountant, he can be allowed to work from home / telecommuting during weekends so that he can accommodate the work without sacrificing his family life / personal life.
