Pearson Product Moment Correlation Write-up (Graded Assignment) Username: Name Instructions: For this graded assignment, you will complete the write-up below after completing the corresponding tutorial to this assignment. You will delete figures and tables where appropriate and then insert correct figures and tables. Also delete and then insert correct answers where there is RED text. To begin, cut and paste the data set below into SPSS (or you can type in the data manually). Do not copy the header row when you paste into SPSS. Before carrying out the analysis in SPSS, you need to set up your data file correctly using the \"Variable View\" tab. Scenario: The purpose of this study was to determine if a relationship exists between the predictor variable (years of teaching experience) and the criterion variable (teachers' selfperceived effective pedagogical competence). The predictor variable was years of teaching experience and the criterion variable was teachers' self-perceived effective pedagogical competence. A Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the hypothesis. The Findings section includes the research question, null hypothesis, data screening, descriptive statistics, assumption testing, and results. Research Question RQ: Is there a relationship between elementary teachers' years of teaching experience and their self-perceptions of effective pedagogical competence? Null Hypothesis H0: There is no significant relationship between elementary teachers' years of teaching experience and their self-perceptions of effective pedagogical competence? Data Screening The researcher sorted the data and scanned for inconsistencies on each variable. No data errors or inconsistencies were identified. A scatter plot was used to detect bivariate outliers between the predictor variable and criterion variable. No bivariate outliers where identified. See Figure 1 for scatter plot. Figure 1. Scatter plot. Descriptive Statistics Descriptive statistics were obtained on each of the variables. The sample consisted of 00 participants. Years of teaching experience was self-reported by teachers as the number of years they have taught in a pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade classroom. The competence scores range from 58 to 290. A score of 58 indicated a low level of self-perceived competence and a score of 290 indicated a high level of self-perceived instructional competence. Descriptive statistics can be found in Table 1. Table 1 Descriptive Statistics Assumption Testing Assumption of Linearity The Pearson Product Moment Correlation requires that the assumption of linearity be met. Linearity was examined using a scatter plot. The assumption of linearity was metot met. See Figure 1 for scatter plot. Assumption of Bivariate Normal Distribution The Pearson Product Moment Correlation requires that the assumption of bivariate normal distribution be met. The assumption of bivariate normal distribution was examined using a scatter plot. The assumption of bivariate normal distribution was metot met. See Figure 1 for scatter plot. Results A Pearson Product Moment Correlation was conducted to see if there was a relationship between years of teaching experience and teachers' self-perceived effective pedagogical competence. The predictor variable was years of teaching experience and the criterion variable was teachers' self-perceived effective pedagogical competence. The researcher rejected/failed to reject the null hypothesis at the 95% confidence level where r(00) = .00, p = .000. The effect size was extremely large/ very large/ large/ medium/ small and the relationship was negative/positive. There was/was not a statistical relationship between elementary teachers' years of teaching experience and their self-perceptions of effective pedagogical competence. See Table 2 for Pearson Product Moment Correlation test results. Table 2 Pearson Product Moment Correlation Test
