These are all rights that typically come with ownership. When applied to a physical item like shoes, these principles make perfect sense. When these notions are applied to an idea, however, they become absurd. Intellectual property also known as the ownership of ideas is a completely manufactured concept. We have gone to tremendous efforts in the United States to develop laws that authorize and protect the ownership of ideas, such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.

Explain why have we gone to such lengths to construct these invented forms of ownership and what are the benefits of intellectual property rights.

Do our intellectual property laws accomplish this goal and are they sacrificed in order to accomplish this goal?
