I need some guidance to answer this following argument...
The principle of social proof happens on Facebook every second of every day. People obtain validation and grant validation to other facebookers with likes, comments, and follows. Social media will also grant social proof through posting something you may believe or like, thus validating your values. The likes and follows are also using the power of reciprocation. If a person follows you, you would only be expected to follow them back. Social influences were even bold enough to tell people that if you follow me, I will follow you back. I am guilty of it as if someone likes my photos. I feel inclined to like their photos as well. Another principle that Robert mentions is scarcity; this principle is used in lots of ways, one being that they only have ten more of the batch, and the first 10 to comment and like the post will receive a code to redeem a product. They create limited number of products to gain exposure. The product may be a key chain, but when it becomes scarce, it's a more sought-after item. Finally, the principle of liking is made for Facebook as if someone follows a person and vice versa, and they are more likely to be influenced by them. I am also a victum of this as I will see a friend selling a new makeup line, I know them, and they follow me, so I buy all the makeup as I feel it is my obligation, but I want to, oddly enough. For these few examples, I think that Robert Cialdini's principles held no different meaning now than in 2001
