Identify appropriate and

Identify an appropriate test to use

Conduct the test using Excel (SPSS when appropriate)

Interpret the results in the context of the problem

Data Sets:

I.UsedCars: A manager of Kansas City used car dealership reviewed a sample of 50 recent used car sales at the dealership in an attempt to determine whether the population mean price for used cars at this particular dealership differed from the national mean. The prices form the sample of 50 cars are include in the dataset UsedCars.

Description of Variables:

Student: control number to identify the responses of each participant.

Copied on Exam: Participants answer to the question: During your time at Bayview, did you ever copy answers off another student's exam? Possible answers were Yes or No.

Collaborated on Individual Project: Participants answer to the question: During your time at Bayview, did you ever collaborate with other students on projects that were supposed to be completed individually? Possible answers were Yes or No.

Gender: Identifies the participant's gender (Male or Female).

Exercise 1. According to the National Automobile Dealers Association, the mean price for used cars is $10,192. Using the sample data from UsedCars, complete the following tasks:

a)Formulate the hypotheses that can be used to determine whether a difference exists in the mean price for used cars at the dealership. Identify Ho and Ha.

b)Identify the appropriate test to conduct (z or t) and find the test statistic. Explain.

c)Conduct the test. What is the p-value?

d)At ? = .05, what is our conclusion? Interpret your results

Exercise 2. In an article that appeared in Chronicle of Higher Education on February 10, 2009 claimed that part of the reason for unethical behavior by Wall Street executives, financial managers, and other corporate officers is due to the fact that cheating has become more prevalent among business students. Some faculty members in the college believe that cheating is more widespread at Bayview than at other universities, whereas other faculty members think that cheating is not a major problem in the college. To help the dean to address these issues, conduct the following task using the dataset Bayview. Note: Any student who answered Yes to one of more of these questions is considered to have been involved in some type of cheating.

a)Use graphs (pie chart or bar chart) or frequency tables to summarize each variable (one graph or table per variable) and comment on your findings (compare the responses for each of the questions).

b)Use this sample of 90 students to develop a 95% confidence intervals for the proportion of business students at Bayview University who were involved in some type of cheating.

c)Conduct a hypothesis test to determine whether the proportion of business students at Bayview University who were involved in some type of cheating is equal to 56% as reported by the Chronicle of Higher Education. Use ? = .05.

d)Compare your results for Parts b and c. Describe your findings.

e)What advice would you give to the dean based upon your analysis of the data?
