Interpersonal skills (soft skills) are essential for career success - a blend of technical and soft skills will make one job candidate stand out from another. A lack of good interpersonal skills can adversely affect a person's career and ability to develop and build relationships. Administrative Professionals require a robust set of soft skills as they interact with numerous individuals on a daily basis and are responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships on behalf of the organization. Building competency and willingness to enhance one's own interpersonal skills will allow students to learn the attitudes and behaviours required to excel in positions where soft skills are as essential, If not more, as technical skills. Your task for this project is make a goal and plan to improve one area of your own interpersonal skills and work towards that goal over the duration of the course Students must choose one area of interpersonal skills they wish to develop and improve based on universal needs or their own self-dentified developmental needs. One area of interpersonal skills is equivalent to one chapter taught from the textbook, plus any additional materials the instructor covers in class relating to that chapter. Here is a list of the interpersonal skill development areas Building Self-Esteem and Self-Confidence Interpersonal Communication Teamwork Group Problem Solving and Decision Making Cross-Cultural Relations and Piversity Conflict Resolution Motivating and Helping Others Customer Satisfaction Productivity and Stress Management Students will have to read their chosen Chapter before its reviewed in class to ensure that they can begin working on the project at the beginning of the course Important note: students who do not begin their project at the beginning of the course will strudle to complete it accurately by the doe date. The project require dally effort over the duration or the course . . . - . Instructions Students will create a multiple page unbound report detailing their personal improvement journey. Students must follow these steps to prepare their report: Step 1: Select your Topic & Conduct Research Read the corresponding chapter in your textbook and then find three additional sources that provide guidance on how to improve the interpersonal skill area you chose for the project. In your report write about the advice and guidance that is given in your textbook and your research materials (APA citation required!) and answer these questions What pieces of advice do you think are the most helpful? What pieces of advice do you not think will work for you? Will you try all of the techniques given in the advice or will you focus on only a few? List all the methods and techniques you will attempt to use in your improvement journey. Note: students who use only the textbook in this step will have marks deducted. Step 2: Set Goals and Assess Reality Set your Goals Changing your behaviour requires you set a clear goals using the SMART goal framework. Your goal is what you want to accomplish after making efforts to improve over the duration of the course. For this step, you should have at least three clear goals you want to accomplish in your chosen interpersonal skill List and explain your goals in your report.
