Disney is listed on the New York Stock Exchange as DIS, and is one of the most famous names in the animation industry catering to adults and children of all ages. Disney's mission statement, \"The mission of the Walt Disney Company is to be one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment and information. Using our portfolio of brands to differentiate our content, services and consumer products, we seek to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related products in the world\"(Walt Disney Company). Forbes ranks Disney at #2 behind Comcast as The World's biggest media Companies of 2015. In an effort to match its mission statement Disney has incorporated five different entertainment business segments worldwide that include media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment and consumer products. (Forbes) In the following report you will be able to get a better understanding on how Disney continues to be successful and grow the company into a major and profitable brand. By taking a look at the SEC 10-K statement, this report will provide insight into Disney's financial standing and what keeps driving them to be a demanding valuable brand. Disney Financial Analysis Disney's Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Statement of Cash Flows will be analyzed and compared in the following chapters to provide an overview to anyone considering investing in this company. Walt Disney SEC-10K Report 4 Balance Sheet Walt Disney's current assets had increased between the fiscal years of 2014 and 2015, growing from $15,169 million to $16,758 million with an overall increase of 1589 million. The current liabilities have also increased from $13,292 million in FY 2014 to $16,334 million in FY 2015. The current ratio has increased from 0.81 to 0.91. This measures the company's liquidity and ascertains the company can meet its short term obligations when they are due. However, the most recommended ratio should be within 1-2. The total assets had increased from $84,141 million to $88,182 million from 2014 to 2015 respectively. This increase generally means the company's asset base is becoming stronger with time. The total liabilities had increased from $35,963 to $39,527 million between FY 2014 and 2015. The total assets are more than half of the total liabilities which shows the company's liquidity is fair Income Statement The company's revenues had increased slightly from $48,813 to $52,465 million from 2014-2015. On the other hand, the cost of the goods sold had increased from $37,273 to $39,241 which shows a slight increase. This means this company's gross profit margin had increased from 0.24 to 0.25, which is a very small margin of increase. The slight increase signifies the cost management could use some more strategic cost management. On the other hand, the net income had increased slightly from $8,004 to $8,852 million, between the years of 2014 and 2015. Generally, this is an indication that the company needs to improve its income statement. Statement of Cash Flows The company gets most of its cash from its operating activities which have generated a net income of $8,004 to $8,852 million from 2014-2015. The cash from operating activities has Walt Disney SEC-10K Report 5 increased slightly from $9,780 to $10,909 between 2014 and 2015. The total spent in investment activities had a slight increase from $3,345 to $4,245 between the 2 years. However, the cash used in financing activities had slightly decreased from $6,710 to $5,514 between 2014 and 2015 which is a positive indication of reducing cash outflows. The interest paid was not much between the two years and had only increased slightly from $310 to $314. On the other hand, the taxes paid had increased from $3,483 to $4,396 between the years of 2014 and 2015. From the analysis, the general trend is the company has positive increase in cash flows since the cash inflows have exceeded the cash outflows. Disney's future outlook and conclusion Disney operates in a very competitive market. As an analysis of Disney SEC10-k reinforces that Disney is giant in the industry. Disney with its increasing revenues and net income is a positive indicator that Disney is financially stable and growing every year.
