Peer Discussion Board
Recently I stopped talking to my best friend/ex-sister-in-law. I was friends with her since the 6th grade and eventually married her brother and we had 2 kids together, and now are divorced. Anyway she decided to quit her job, leave her husband and move a hour away. After 2 weeks of her not talking to me I called and asked what was going on. She told me a story that any mother would have as a nightmare. Even worse she was in physical and mental distress. I sat and talked with her one night and she said she was going to come back. She said she was going to stay. Needless to say I decided it was better for the "Tough Love" technique and told her if she was going to live that life I could not have her around because I did not want that lifestyle around my children. As of today she is back home with her husband and is looking for a job. We only talk once in awhile. Knowing she is out of that situation even though we do not talk calms my heart. She always asked me to set her straight if she was being dumb, and I have asked the same. Sadly it hurt our relationship.
I wouldn't change the decision. I am the type of person that voices their opinion. I am also a person that respects others thoughts, beliefs, and opinions. I was very scared for her and knew I had to tell her from the heart how I felt. I know it hurt her but now that she is safe home "licking her wounds" to say, and I can sleep better at night.
