I need to reply back to my peer DB post.
when thinking of ethics and the internet, I can't help but to think of the time I attempted to sell my laptop online but was scammed out of my money and my laptop. Story time; I was selling my macbook pro on an app called "letgo" and posted it for $1000. Someone offered to buy my laptop from me for the asking price and we agreed to meet at in a target parking lot and exchange the money through PayPal. Unfortunately, I didn't know the buyer was scamming a third party at the same time and told them they were selling them concert tickets; also paid through PayPal. Their scam was to have the third party send me the money (me thinking its the original buyer) and the buyer to get the laptop for free without me knowing. So, now that the person I though bought my Macbook is happy with the sale, two people have been scammed. The third party who send the money through PayPal filed an action through PayPal services requesting a recipt/ shipping order of concert tickets (which I could not provide because I sold a laptop). Since I could not provide a receipt, and a police report did not suffice, I had to pay back the $1000. Now I'm out a laptop and $1000.
I know its a bit of a long story but ethically and morally its wrong. relates to the golden rule, treat others as you would want to be treated.
