I have definitely experienced some challenges balancing professional and personal responsibilities. The company I work for has been relocating their employees. The first of my relocations my son was a one year old. I am a single mother. We relocated to a city were we would have no support system. My son had to be put in daycare. At the time my son had some issue that I wasn't aware of. He would act out almost everyday. I would get calls at work that he needed to be picked up. I had no one to pick him up. I would have to leave work.

I work for a telecommunications company that has strict attendance policies. I was having an emotional break down because of it. On top of the acting out, he was always sick because of asthma. So it was either I had to leave work because he was sick or acting out. I had to leave there was no one else but me, I had to get my child everytime. He is my responsibility but I also needed my job, it's how I take care of him. He is now almost eighteen and in his year of college. It's been a long road, but I fee it made me strong.

I feel companies should try to do more to help employees balance out work and personal life. It would be so beneficial for single parents especially.
