I need your help answering these questions please ( After the questions there are steps of how to solve it)

the question is as follows:

You need to calculate if more FTEs are needed since the increase in disability claim requests has risen by 2,750 per year. The ROI Coordinator currently processes 4 claims per hour.

Based upon the increase, figure out how many FTEs will be needed to assist the ROI Coordinator in the next year to meet the increased demand. (Salary for these FTE's will be $17 per hour. This information will be placed in the Salary Budget).

(There are some help documents on Canvas on figuring out FTE's)

Items for Salary Budget:

  • Based on 2080 hours working a year, what is your department's average hourly rate?
  • What is the total average monthly salary expense for your department each month?

The steps are as follows:

Calculating FTE's

Need to know Info:

5 days in a work week

260 days in a work year

52 weeks in a work year

Assume 7.5 hours worked per day

40 hours a work week

2080 hours a work year

Formula for calculating productivity

Total productivity = completed work / time to produce work output

Formula for calculating FTE's

# required FTE's = # of encounters / expected productivity

Example:

A HIM director would like to determine the number of employees needed in a coding section. She knows that the average number of inpatient records coded is 6 per hour. The hospital discharges an average of 65 patients per day. How many FTE's are required for coding?

First calculate the number of records each FTE can code per day:

(6 records per hour) x (7.5 hours per day) = 45 records

Next, divide the number of discharges per day by the number of records coded per FTE

Required number of FTEs = Number of encounters (65) / productivity rate (45) so 65/45 = 1.44

Round up to a .5 FTE, so 1.5 FTE's would be needed

For your budget project you know:

The ROI Coordinator currently processes 4 claims per hour.

claim requests have risen by 2,500 per year
