I personally believe in term limits for all elected government officials whether it be local, state or federal. Setting term limits helps with reducing corruption in government by not allowing people to remain in power for an extended period of time. With lobbyists and special interests groups pressuring official to help pass legislation for their benefit it is easy to see how they can be influenced especially during an election year. In the past year an officials age has become a point of contention for government officials and has brought into question their ability to function and fulfill the duties they were elected to do. Term limits could help curb the process of an official being in office too long to where health and cognitive ability becomes an issue. In regards to the governors office, there should definitely be term limits for that position especially in Illinois. The level of corruption in Illinois is of great concern, as is the amount of officials who have been indicted and imprisoned in this state including former governors. By setting term limits it allows people with different perspectives of governing to serve the people. It also puts the power in the hands of the people where they will vote into office candidates who will work for them and not individuals who just want to stay in power for themselves, their party affiliation or special interest groups.
