I recently got a job in HR at my kids' school. I Already worked in the technology department there for the last few years and when this opportunity came I just couldn't pass up applying. Luckily I got the job but not before negotiations took place. At the school we have pay scales, which is ironic now because I am now responsible for these payscales. The pay scale was manipulated before I took on this role, to decrease the starting pay that this particular position received. What they did was, when the HR lady quit, they got rid of her position and rebranded it from a "HR Manager" to a "Business Office Specialist" so they could pay the position less while asking whoever took on this role to do all the same tasks as before.
