I think older adults report more life satisfaction when they have quality friendships than relationships with younger family members because the older adults who are your friends get you more. They are the people who are virtually going through the same thing you are and know how to handle whatever it is you need in a better manner than a younger family member would. Most of the time your older friends are people you have been friends with for a while and yall have grown together. So chances are your older friends do know and understand you better than the younger family members.

Research indicates the friends you have who are actual genuine friends make a bigger difference and impact on your life than your younger family members would (Kail and Cavanaugh, 2023). You guys have grown together and made more memories than possible to make with a younger family member. Older adults also have more positive reactions when interacting with people of their own age (Charles and Piazza, 2007).

Other social issues we must consider as we age are staying connected to each other, trying to keep the world and everyone around us in good shape, and staying happy. Staying connected with friends and family is a great way to make sure not only we but our loved ones are not lonely in the future. It's a way to make sure everyone feels like they are a part of something and like they have people there for them. Keeping the world and people around us in good shape makes it so there is a safe and nice place for us to live for our remaining years. Everyone should try to contribute to the world in some way, shape, or form. Just staying happy is a great way to live your life as you get older.
