I think one of the key practical uses that I will take away from this course is the expanded comfortability that I have using excel. I recently accepted a new position where I will be working with excel daily, so this was a good course to have to just get me more familiar with all the different functions and shortcuts that I can use on there. I also think that having a base understanding of stats will provide me assistance in the work that I do as well. I think data analysis is changing rapidly in the business world around us. At my previous job, we used a lot of this to calculate all sorts of different things around the store. We would use different analytics to understand where we were succeeding at and where we were failing within the store. When I think of stats being misleading my thoughts go right to sports. Stats are so prevalent in sports where people are arguing daily about one another's stats. The thing people get caught up in is the impact they make without compiling a statistic. You can't account for that variable when just looking at stats as a whole.
In your response post discuss with your peer the following:
- Does you look at statistics differently now? If so, how?
- What advice can you offer to help others make the most appropriate use of data?
