(b) Three particles .4, B and C, lie in a straight line in that order on a horizontal frictionless plane. Their masses are 2m for A, m. for B and 2m for C\". lnitially B and C are stationary but separated by some distance. A moves towards B with velocity u. The coefficient of restitution in the collision between A and B is 0.5. B is then propelled forward and collides with C. with a coefficient of restitution of 0.75. i. Work out the details of these first two collisions. What is the speed and direc- tion of all three particles afterwards? Will there be a third collision between any two particles? Explain why. (You do not need to work out the details of any further collisions should they occur). ii. By comparing the kinetic energies at each stage, work out how much energy is lost in each of the two collisions
