I want to avoid a political debate, but, lets discussthe Supreme Court and federal judges.As you know the President nominates a candidate and the Senate confirms (or not) the nominee.All federal judges serve for life - until they retire or die. (*Note, state courts are different and do vary from state to state).All federal judges are nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate.

If you were on the Senate Judiciary Committee, what questions would you ask the nominee and why these questions?Are there questions that are out of bounds?

Is a life appointment too long or is it the best way to give judges the freedom to rule without worrying about public opinion?Some states elect judges.Is this a better plan?
