5/ 1) Sketch the graph of f (x) = x 3 -5x/3 Sign graphs2. Guidelines for Graphing 1. Determine the domain. What are all the allowed values for x that can be used in your graph? 2. Find the intercepts. Solve f (x) =0 to get x-int. Evaluate f (0) to get y -int. 3. Find all vertical, horizontal or slant asymptotes. Use appropriate limits to determine the behavior of the graph as it approaches the asymptotes. VA: If lim f (x) =too or lim f (x) =too, then x = a is a VA x->a HA: If lim f (x) =L or lim f (x) =L, then y = L is a HA X-700 x-> -00 SA: If Degree of Numerator = Degree of Denominator +1, and a remainder exists after the polynomial long division, then the quotient gives the SA. 4. Identify any Extrema. Find f'(x) and make a sign graph. Use FDT (or SDT) to identify local minimums or maximums. Label any extrema with their (x,y) coordinates on the graph. 5. Identify any Points of Inflection. Find f"(x) and make a sign graph. Look for changes in sign. Label any Inflection Points with their (x,y) coordinates on the graph
