I wanted to share my experience with my the negotiations for my car.
Two years ago I purchased a used car from car used car dealer. I did a lot of market research for the type of car I wanted, the general valuation of those cars, and the value of my car for trade in. I found a great car for my needs and budget, however it was a bit on the higher side so I wanted to bring the price down. I inspected that car and noticed a few minor things like a light scratch near the driver side door and the mirrors seemed a bit shaky, However, when I tried to use these during the negotiation, I was told that they don't negotiate price, but they'll make their "best effort" to fix those before the sale was finalized. They did not do anything to address those issues, and I didn't manage to gain anything more than the initial offer.
I wish that I had stuck to my guns more, and pushed harder for some more out of the deal. As soon as they said they said they do not negotiate I didn't press further, but in retrospect I believe I could have gotten some of the price down with some of the things that I found if I tried more. I hope to gain more skills in the awareness of the power and leverage in these kinds of discussions so that I will have the confidence and ability to achieve better outcomes.
