I was recently involved in a team tasked with revamping our on-call policy to ensure that the ER was not unnecessarily abusing the policy to call in staff. This team had many functional and some dysfunctional aspects. Part of the team's functionality revolved around supportive leaders who were able to clearly identify the team's objectives and carry out organized and effective meetings that team members believed would improve the situation. Some of the team characteristics that could have been improved were certain members' self-seeking behaviors. Since this call policy was due for revision, certain team members would pinpoint situations and adaptations to the policy that would benefit their specific needs
