I work in a field service organization that repairs highly complex equipment. In some of our product lines, it can take up to 5 years for someone to build sufficient competencies. The leadership decided to begin to bring in entry level employees that would be tasked with certain responsibilities that did not require extensive experience or training. Last year I implemented a strategy where we had a very narrow set of tasks that could be repeated. The strategy idea was to train and use these entry level people to complete these tasks. The leaders of that team decided that their strategy for these employees did not align with my project strategy and denied the use of the team. I was forced to outsource the work. When my project was over, none of that experience was retained in the company. "(I)mplementing strategy is all about resource deployment" (text). Had these resources been used, the organization would have benefited from retaining this knowledge and leveraging this for future use. This knowledge could have been used in subsequent years for the same tasks for continued tasks.
