Introduction and thesis statement:This study investigates the impact of sanism on young alcohol addicts requiring mental health care. It aims to understand how sanism influences their recovery and evaluates the role of peer support in their biopsychosocial context. The research also explores practical strategies for social integration and the importance of mental health education for youth, families, and institutions, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals. It seeks to improve mental health practices for young alcohol addicts by addressing these areas.

Detail about the topic:Alcohol addiction in young people is a public health issue with significant implications for mental health care. It affects 12% of Canadians under 18, making young adults more vulnerable to long-term psychological and physical health consequences and increased suicide risk. Treatment for alcoholism and mental health issues involves medication, support groups, mental health specialists, and family. Sanism, discrimination against those suffering from mental health issues, is often the most significant barrier to successful treatment.

Theoretical Framework:1)the sanism theoretical framework significantly contributedto my growth as a learner. Considering Mad Metter's writings, which reject the medical concept of mental illness and advocate an empathic, rights-based approach, we must combat "sanism" and other forms of prejudice against persons with mental illness.2)The primary goal is to foster unity in the anti-sanism praxis, which entails recognizing the effect of sanism on young people and its perpetuation via empathetic listening, the identification of young people's talents and capabilities, and, on the other, the taking of action through the sharing of information. Health education to raise awareness of the adverseeffects on young people's minds and bodies, peer support in schools and communities, and youth empowerment to give them a voice and a chance to defend themselves are all essential.

Literature review: The first study published by Halsall et al.'s 2022 study evaluates peer support's impact on youth with mental health and substance use issues, emphasizing mutual assistance, empathy, and strengthening interpersonal relationships to overcome health barriers. The second study explores youth-friendly mental health and substance use services in Canada, highlighting mental health challenges faced by young people aged 15-24. Strategies include involving youth, using anti-oppressive theories, being non-judgmental, facilitating spontaneity, and providing accessible infrastructure and professional staff. The third study, Mad Matters by Breda A. Le Francois, highlights mental health challenges faced by adolescents, young people, and adults, emphasizing the need for education, self-love, and anti-oppression theory to promote empowerment and resilience. The last literature says Mental health has been excluded from the UN Sustainable Development Goals due to historical inequalities. The policy should focus on health, education, unemployment, and housing, as mental health treatment receives limited funding and stigmatization. Argument and discussion:In the context of young people'salcohol addiction, sanism can appear as stigmatization, marginalization, or prejudice toward young people coping with alcohol addiction. This might make seeking assistance and obtaining therapy more difficult.1) So that sanism does not replicate itself, four crucial hypotheses have been found. The study identified four critical theories within the LOFT-TAY program that were linked to client outcomes, and these are stigma reduction, expanding social relationships, coping practices with the presence of professionals, and developing youth autonomy with addiction and mental problems by giving them participation in the programs. 2)The results should be tested in various situations to validate their general validity and adaptability to peer support. Conclusion: thelegacy of the lens that we should consider for progressive or transformative practice. In future mental health practices, I will take an integrated approach, considering physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects, challenging systemic biases, recognizing addiction, understanding Sanism and teamwork to achieve equal access and combat discrimination.

Question /Discussion1) How does sanism contribute to the reluctance of young addicts to seek help for their alcoholism and mental illness?2)What strategies can be implemented to combat Sanism and encourage young addicts to pursue and continue treatment for alcoholism and Mental illness?
