To determine whether there was a linear relationship between feelings toward conservatives and beliefs regarding gay persons' right to marry one another, a linear regression was performed. The regression was statistically significant where ? = .05, B = -0.011, t (289)= -2.914, p= .004, r2 = .029. This indicates that there is a negative, somewhat significant linear relationship between feelings toward conservatives and beliefs regarding gay persons' right to marry one another y = -0.0106x + 2.5431 R = 0.0286. Such that it is predicted that the warmer a person feels towards conservatives they will be less likely (-0.011) to agree with gay marriage. Feelings towards conservatives accounts for approximately 2.9% of the variance in feelings about gay marriage. These results indicate that people who have warmer feelings towards conservatives will have more negative feelings towards gays being allowed to marry. Since there is a linear relationship between feelings toward conservatives and beliefs regarding gay persons' right to marry, nonprofit agencies that support gay marriage should not look for contributions from those that have warm feelings towards conservatives.
