Identify all of the parties that may be found liable if the pilot crashed and all passengers died -- pilot survived). (Hint: Consider who may be subject to a lawsuit). Identify what would be the liability if the pilot and all passengers survived, but some passengers (adults and/or children) sustained life-changing injuries because of a crash. Explain why each of the people or entities you've listed would be liable.

Lisa, newly-minted private pilot, having just obtained her airplane single engine land rating, was excited at the prospect of finally being able to fly without having to report to an instructor. While at another airfield, she spotted for sale an older Piper Seminole, a multi-engine aircraft. The aircraft just came out of annual where it received two overhauled cylinders and a new crankshaft. Lisa loved the aircraft and she purchased it on the spot. She called her local insurance broker and asked to insure the aircraft for ground risk only.

A few days later she asked a couple of friends to go for a flight. They were excited to see her 'new' aircraft and each brought their young children along for the flight. While conducting her ground check, Lisa noticed her Seminole was a little low on fuel, but the local FBO informed her that their fuel service was out of order that day due to a fuel pump issue.

Lisa did not want to disappoint her friends, let alone the children. So, she calculated the distance to the next airport with fuel service and found that she would have just enough fuel to make it. By the time they departed and enroute a headwind was far stronger than last reported and much higher than what was forecasted. While midway, Lisa was panicking because the fuel gauge was indicating empty with 15 miles to go and she knew they would not be able to land at the airport.
