If Congress felt it was so important to prevent telemarketers and spam from reaching us, why didn't they extend CAN-SPAM to cover junk mail as well? It's rather easy to hang up on a telemarketer or delete an email. However, junk mail must be opened, read, and then walked over to the trash can for disposal. Further, junk mail fills up our garbage landfills and results in trees being cut down to produce the paper. Not to mention the gas that is used to deliver the junk mail from the printer to your mailbox, and so on. So, why did Congress restrict telemarketing and spam, but not junk mail?
