If Erik Erickson were alive today, the matter of high teach turnover rates in infant and toddler classrooms would have been of upmost urgency! Eric Erickson paid attention to the influence of the environment that small children are in makes all the difference in quality interactions. Children develop at their own rates and speeds; we are merely just the influence in helping them along the way. If we don't have the teacher power to provide these influential environments, attachment amongst teachers and students, and also the consistent guiding that is needed amongst small children, it could have a negative effect on social-emotional development. Children thrive on consistency and schedule. They look forward to seeing that friendly and familiar face they know they are going to see along the school days. I think children work better on a schedule and that they develop said schedule with alot of their teachers and fellow students. They develop these quality friendships and healthy relationships throughout their younger days to prepare them for when they enter the public or private school system. If every time they come to school another teacher has moved on they are then removed from their learned environment and their learned schedule and forced to start over with a new face in which they have to get used to once again. All teachers do not have the same learning styles, patience, and knowledge of behaviors amongst students. So it leads to basically having to start over which can be alot on small children.
