Project 1: Scientific Methods Lab Report Name: EXPERIMENTAL QUESTION: How does the amount of salt added to ice affect the rate at which the ice will melt? HYPOTHESIS - 10 pts Think back to your hypothesis from the pre-lab quiz. Restate your hypothesis here and be sure to read feedback that may have been left from your instructor. Remember to use an "If.., then." statement. Remember: You can get the hypothesis from the "Pre-Lab Quiz". MATERIALS - 5 pts List the materials used in your experiment.PROCEDURE - 5 pts Make a numbered, step by step list of short instructions describing how the experiment was performed. The procedure should have enough detail so that another person could follow and repeat the experiment. RESULTS: 15 pts Please record your data in the table provided. SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION QUESTION Construct a hypothesis that answers the following experimental question: How does the amount of salt added to ice affect the rate at which the ice will melt? A sample set of materials and procedures are provided for you below. If you would like to substitute some materials or change the procedure, that is OK as long as you keep records of what you do and explain it on your lab report in the Materials and/or Procedure section. SUGGESTED MATERIALS 4 Ice Cubes Salt . 4 Plates or Bowls Measuring Spoon . . Stopwatch (Optional) OSUGGESTED PROCEDURE 1. Place one ice cube onto each plate or into each bowl. Measure 14 teaspoon of salt and sprinkle it on the first ice cube. Measure ' teaspoon of salt and sprinkle it on the second ice cube. Measure 1 teaspoon of salt and sprinkle it on the third ice cube. Do not add anything to the fourth ice cube. Observe the ice cubes and note the order in which they melt. FQWPWN Clean up any messes. Project Rubric Your project will be graded according to a rubric.
