If you fly on an airline with the worst accident rate, you have roughly a 10 times greater chance of dying in a crash

If you fly on an airline with the worst accident rate, you have roughly a 10 times greater chance of dying in a crash on any given flight than on an airline with the best accident rate. (a) Knowing only this, how much more would you pay to fly on the safest airline rather than the least safe airline? (b) On the safest airline, there is a 1 in 19.8 million chance of dying on any single flight. For the least safe airline there is about a 1 in 2 million chance of dying on a single flight. Does knowing these numbers change your answer in part (a)? (c) A flight attendant flies, on average, 150 times per year. If you work as a flight attendant for 40 years for the same airline, what are your chances of dying in a crash for the least safe airline? For the safest airline? (d) The average American has roughly a 1 in 112 chance of dying in a motor vehicle accident over their lifetime. Compare this risk to your answer in part (c) and comment on the relative safety of driving and flying on a commercial flight.
