If you were to ask randomly selected people the following question: "Which of the following expenditures makes up the largest portion of the U.S. Federal Government budget: defense spending or entitlement payments?" you would likely get an evenly split response. American citizens, in aggregate, don't seem to know where most of their tax dollars are going. Why do people seem to not know very much about federal government expenditures?
