Janice used the computer properly in her own apartment. After using it for 2 hours, it suddenly exploded and hurt her hands. Janice consulted a medical doctor and paid a medical fee of HK$50,000. She also paid HK$7,000 to buy a new computer from another company. After care check by relevant professional body, it has been found that Kate made big mistakes when repairing the computer of Janice, which led to the explosion of the computer. Janice claimed compensation from Kate but Kate took out the exemption clause and refused to pay any compensation. Advise Janice of her legal rights under contract law and the Sale of Goods Ordinance.
