I'm having trouble with this question, can you help me?

Question 7:

A very unethical track coach was interested in discovering whether a new drug "Go-Fast" would increase the speed of his sprinter. He tested the drug by giving it to half of his sprint team and using the other half as a control. Then he timed the two groups over 100 metres. For the controls (N=17) the mean time was 11.0, with a standard deviation of 3.0 secs and for the experimental group (N=18) mean was 13, with a standard deviation of 3.5secs. (Assume that proper testing procedures were followed). a) What are the independent and dependent variables in this experiment?

b) What precaution should the coach have observed when dividing the subjects into groups?

c) What can the coach conclude about "Go-Fast"? Include t-test results (full step by step calculation and excel) and provide a results statement.
