I'm looking forward to your presentations that are coming up in a few weeks and am using this opportunity to provide some final tips, not only for the presenters, but the audience, as well.
For the presenters: 1. You have only 20 minutes to present (no longer). I will be quite strict on this timeline so we can ensure we have time for every group and that no group has a shorter amount of time than others. You could assign someone in your group to keep track of the time and signal to the group if you start to run long. If I have to cut you off, you will lose points. So, to prevent that, rehearse together. You'll have a better sense of the time it will take to cover your material. 2. When using video clips, factor in the time it will take to show clips of your film. You are required to include a short trailer of the film so the students who have not seen the film can get a sense of the plot and the leader you are analyzing. You may want to introduce the characters first, before showing the trailer so students will have a better understanding of these characters while they view the trailer. Keep the clips short enough to get the point across. Make sure you test them on Zoom (check quality and volume) prior to your presentation. 3. Every presenter should recognize that this is a professional presentation, and you should be prepared to deliver a professional presentation. Your slides should have NO typos or misspelled words (EVERYONE should proof each slide and correct any typos). Slides should not be overly wordy. Everyone should dress professionally (business casual is fine). All presenters should be knowledgeable about their respective slides and content. Do NOT read directly from the slides. 4. Make sure you review the rating sheet that I will use to grade your presentations. The goal of this assignment is for you to show your knowledge--that you can analyze a leader through the various leadership theories and concepts covered this quarter and make recommendations that are supported through journal articles and leadership research. Talk about each of your topics in depth, as would a professional executive leadership coach. Remember, your client may not know about these theories and concepts.
5. Last, on the day you present, have one member of your team email me a copy of your PowerPoint slides. Also, please send me, individually, your peer evaluation. The peer evaluation is posted under Course Documents. Follow the instructions on both pages and explain what every member contributed to the project, including your own contributions. For the audience: 1. Be prepared to comment on the presentations. Your comments can actually enhance the presentation and help your colleagues. 2. Do NOT arrive to the Zoom class late; this behavior is usually perceived as being disrespectful to the presenters and the audience. Please be engaged while the teams are presenting. 3. Make sure you do attend class as these presentations are to be given the same priority as a lecture class period. Good luck to all of you! Let me know if you have any questions.
