We discussed a phenomenon known as "Creating Designer Babies", and whether or not you feel it is ethical. If you hadn't heard the term "designer babies" yet, chances are you would have soon. In its simplest definition, a designer baby is an embryo that has been genetically modified (or gene-edited) for the sake of producing a child with specific traits. In some cases, unfavorable characteristics or bad traits (like a genetic disease) may be removed, or favorable traits (like enhanced intelligence or strength) might be added. And while it might seem like it's straight out of science fiction, designer children are becoming a reality. Designer babies have been the subject of much discussion and debate over the years. For your first Discussion post, imagine that you had the money and access to alter the genetics of your unborn child. Would you? Why or Why Not? State any ethical considerations that informed your answer. Is it possible to create "designer babies" responsibly? What impact might creating "designer babies" have on society as a whole? Make sure your answer is a well-crafted response to support your stance on this debate. Simple "yes I agree or no, I do not agree statements" will not earn any points on this thread. Use the material presented during class, the textbook, and your own informal research (i.e. articles, opinion pieces on the topic, etc.) to support your answer. Your response to this thread must be posted on or before Wednesday, February 22nd at 11:59 p.m. to receive full credit. Everyone enrolled in the course is expected to post at least one well-thought-out response to each discussion assigned in class. Reply 4:36 PM 9 52OF 2/22/2023 X O 42 N W
