Imagine you are a top manager at Costco and pick one part of the strategic management process (SMP) you would like to focus on (state that part of the process and your imaginary role);

pick one of your imaginary direct subordinates and state his/her role or function;

formulate an effective goal for that employee toward fulfilling the chosen part of SMP (make sure to walk us through your goal setting rationale);

explain how the achievement of that goal would benefit the company in operational and strategic ways (reference your learning about strategy and strategic tools);

as a personal reflection in the end, state whether goal setting fits your personal management style and what strategy strength would help you in the planning process (explain what led you to think so). Also, what are you still missing in, or would like to add to, your learning about your chosen goal setting and strategic process part and what could your group colleagues illuminate for you from outside research?
