Below is the California assignment for Ch. 1. It is due 1/22/21. You should probably complete the first 2 ch. 1 problems in Connect before you try to calculate the California answers to those problems.
Part One:
Please complete Problems 42 and 49 from chapter 1 of the text-I have rewritten them below for you use. Use California tax information from the FTB site, (in addition to completing those Federal problems in Connect). Assume taxpayers are California residents. Use the 5402EZ tables for Problem 42. Assume that the Taxpayer had $5,000 of California income tax withheld for Problem 49.
Prob. 42 is as follows: Havel and Petra are married and file a Joint Tax Return.Havel has W-2 income of $38,588 and Petra has W-2 income of $49,381. What is their tax liability. Determine the tax liability using both the Tax Tables and the Tax Rate Schedule. Use the 2019 tables and rate schedule since 2020 is not yet available.
Prob 49 is as follows: Sheniqua, a single woman, had taxable income of $91,431. Her employer withheld $5,000 of California income tax from her paychecks during the year.Using the Tax Tables, how much is her total tax liability? Would she owe more tax or receive a refund? How much?
Part Two:
Go on line and find the websites for the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) and the California Tax Education Council (CTEC).
Find the Career link at the bottom of the FTB site. Find the job posting for Tax Auditor. Read the Code of Conduct from the CTEC site to see what a CTRP Must do.
After you have reviewed the above, briefly (one or two sentence each) answer the following questions.
- What are the Education and work experience requirements to become a Tax Auditor at the FTB
- Why have a CTEC Tax Preparer Code of Conduct?
- Are you required to be registered to be a paid preparer in California? How much is the Bond?
- Why do you think a Bond is required?
- Does the preparer need to give the Taxpayer a copy of the Taxpayers tax return?
- Must the preparer keep a copy of the return? How long?
Use complete sentences and good grammar. You can either respond in the space provided or you can attach a Word document.
