In 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration revised the requirements for food labels and required producers to indicate the amount of added sugars on all labels of packaged foods and beverages. The intent of the policy was to reduce sugar consumption by increasing awareness among consumers regarding the sugar content of the food and beverages they consume.
