In 2017, Henry was employed as a junior accountant by Easy Link Ltd, a trading company in Hong Kong. Henry supplies you with the following information relating to the year ended 31 March 2019.
- His basic salary was $20,000 per month.
- A rental subsidy of $9,000 per month was paid to Henry. Easy Link Ltd has no control over how the rental subsidy was spent and Henry was living alone in a flat owned by his father during the year.
- Easy Link Ltd gave Henry, as a new year bonus, various items of used office equipment having a net book value of $18,000 and a resale value of $7,500.
- In order to meet the tight deadline to finalize the annual report, Henry always worked overtime in January 2019. Easy Link Ltd provided Henry with a cash allowance of $1,000 in January 2019, of which only $600 was expended on meals.
- In July 2018, Henry enrolled in a part-time master's course in accounting at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The tuition fee of $28,000 was paid during the year. Easy Link Ltd did not reimburse any of the tuition fees.
