In 2017, the Ford Motor Co. sued John Cena, professional wrestler and popular celebrity, for breach of contract. Ford had sold Cena a special $400,000 plus Ford GT car. Ford required anyone who wanted to become a buyer of a Ford GT to submit an application and also required all buyers whom Ford selected to agree not to resell the car for at least 24 months after purchase. Ford picked Cena to be a Ford GT buyer, but Cena resold the car only a few months after Ford sold it to him. Subsequently, Ford filed a lawsuit for breach of contract against Cena in federal court in Michigan alleging that he had violated the agreement not to resell the car before 24 months had passed. You can read more about the case in the following article that includes some background videos:

Woodyard, C. (Dec. 2, 2017). "John Cena sued by Ford for selling GT supercar". USA Today. Retrieved April 11, 2019 from https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2017/12/02/ford-sues-actor-wwe-superstar-john-cena-over-his-car/915846001/

In 2018, the lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed amount with Ford agreeing to donate the proceeds of the settlement and Cena issuing a statement urging other Ford GT buyers to "respect the contract". You can read about the settlement here:

Markovich, T. (Jun. 19, 2018) "The Flip that Flopped: John Cena and Ford Settle GT Lawsuit" Car and Driver. Retrieved April 11, 2019 from https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a21622751/the-flip-that-flopped-john-cena-and-ford-settle-gt-resale-lawsuit/

The press presented the settlement, Cena apologizing and Ford giving the proceeds of the settlement to charity, as a fair resolution of the matter. This case illustrates how not following the terms of a contract can lead to a breach of contract lawsuit or action. The case also illustrates how an action like this can be settled amicably without going to trial. Most lawsuits do not proceed to trial.
