In 2019, the Canada Revenue released the results on the tax gap, that is, the difference between the taxes that would be paid if all obligations were fully met in all instances, and the tax actually paid and collected. The following is some information on these studies.

The Canada Revenue Agency has been studying the tax gap in the economy. CRA defines the tax gap as the difference between the taxes that would be paid if all obligations were fully met in all instances, and the tax actually paid and collected. A study released in June 2019 estimated that SMEs' federal tax gap was between $2.7 and $3.5 billion for the tax year 2014 for small/medium-sized businesses and the federal tax gap for large corporations is estimated to be between $6.7 billion and $7.9 billion. Note that information on small/medium businesses is in Section 3 and large businesses in Section 4. This study only covers federal income tax does not include sales taxes or provincial taxes.
