In a heating-mixing system (like shown in figure), a viscous fluid is heated in a heat exchanger to get a certain consistency before feeding to the jacket-tank. It is assumed that the tank is well mixed. In the heat exchanger, the heating is to be accomplished by passing saturated steam through the shell side of the exchanger. The mass flow rate (M) and enthalpy (Hb) of steam are 1000 kg/min and 640 kcal/kg, respectively. In the heat exchanger, the total volume of the pipes through which the process fluid passes is 5 m3 . The process fluid enters the heat exchanger at 20C (T0) with 20 m3 /min volumetric flow rate (F0). Density () and heat capacity (Cp) of the process fluid are 900 kg/m3 and 1.1 kcal/kgC, respectively and their values can be assumed constant. The volume of the tank is 50 m3 and it is heated by a jacket through which the steam exiting the heat exchanger passes
