In a recent board meeting at Converse Ltd, the board needs to review the company's IT strategic plan and a proposal to implement an ERP system. The CEO started: We need a ERP as this is what everyone else in the industry is using. l like SAP as it is standardised, formal, and every module has been pre-setup for us. The production manager commented: Our current production processes are highly customised and complex, and have been changed over the years to fit our changing product line and production requirements. How would SAP accommodate this? The Chief Information Officer suggested: We can try a prototyping approach. It is fast and low risk for the firm. We can start with the Production department first, to see to the extent a new system may work for them, and then roll out to other departments. The chairman listened to all this and pondered: l have only heard of SDLC so I don't know about prototyping. Further, isn't it easier just to go with a ready, turnkey ERP system rather than trying to develop it ourselves? How would this system fit with our IT strategic plan ? Reguired: As a new system analyst, make recommendations to the appropriate approach to develop or acquire a new ERP in the company. Ensure you refer to the suggestions and arguments made above
