In an age where we share so much information, does the maxim I don't do anything wrong, therefore I have nothing to hide, make sense?

In an age where we share so much information, does the maxim "I don't do anything wrong, therefore I have nothing to hide," make sense?  With technology entrenched in nearly all aspects of an individual's personal and work life, more information is being gathered and shared - intentionally or not - about each and every one of us than ever before. The more surveillance and continuous tracking is being implemented, the more difficult it becomes to change the way that technology is used to encroach on our lives.

The line between what is private and what is public is becoming further blurred as time goes on.  Our digital footprint - built upon the many online services, websites, and apps that we use daily and each a treasure trove of data about their users - is a figurative gold-mine for cyber criminals, commercial entities, and governments alike.

Conduct some research, or use examples from your personal experience, to answer each of the following:

  1. Share a recent example of an incident where sensitive personally identifiable information (SPII) was stolen and/or leaked.
  2. Does privacy still exist in today's world?
  3. Are there ways individuals or organizations can use to preserve their personal/sensitive information or proprietary data?
