In an orbiting space station, an electronic package is housed in a compartment having a surface area, As = 1 m2 , which is exposed to space. Under normal operating conditions, the electronics dissipate 1,000W, all of which must be transferred from the exposed surface to space. If the surface emissivity is 1.0, and the surface is not exposed to the sun, what is its steady-state temperature?

(Hint: You may assume that radiation hitting the electronic package from stars, earth and other celestial bodies is negligible and the space station is blocked from receiving sun radiation by the earth. You may also assume that transfer of heat to the space station from the electronic package is negligible (In other words all 1,000W is being transferred through the 1 m2 surface area to space). You may also assume that space is a vacuum. Think about why q=qrad=Ts^4 . Can convection occur in a vacuum?)
