In anyjob incentives are a huge part of employee performance and motivation. Short- term incentives are simply a means of rewarding employees for their hard work immediately. Short-term incentives are generally presented in the form of an added bonus, an extra day off or even something as simple as a dinner on the company. These incentives provide for so much more than just monetary value. They let the employee know that they are appreciated and their hard work has not gone unnoticed. They also promote higher morale and makes the employee feel what they do is important. \"Short-term incentives range from premium and differential payments for employees who working unusual situations, to incentive plans that pay for units produced, to bonuses for individual innovation and creativity, to awards or bonuses for achieving all kinds of desired results" (Henderson, 2006, p. 346). While working for UPS as a dock supervisor if the dock exceeded its numbers in loading efficiency and safety they were often giving gift certificates or bonuses on paychecks. This increased employee morale along with making the employee feel appreciated. Everyone wants to receive a pat on the back when they put their best foot forward
