In at minimum one paragraph, offer your perspective on the increasing economic inequality in our country as shown in the second video. For a different take on income inequality, I saw a meme that showed that the Big Mac cost $3.54 cents in 2009, which was the same year the federal minimum wage went up to $7.25. In 2021, the price of the Big Mac was $5.81, and is now alleged to be $6.05. Yet, the federal minimum wage has not increased. With that kind of inflation, how is it that people can afford to buy necesseties, pay rent, etc., because you know if the Big Mac has increased, so has everything else? Could this possibly explain why it is so difficult for young people today to move out of their parents home and live on their own? This exercise is designed to get you to think about poverty, who uses welfare programs and why, and to help you see that there are over 30 million people in this situation (this figure was prior to the pandemic), the majority of them children in families.
